Cavity walls have been used to reduce damp penetration since the last century. Wall ties have been used to tie the inner and outer leaf together to provide structural stability. Water, damp can cause these ties to rust and in some instances completely disintegrate. When a tie rusts it expands to several times their original size and mortar beds are cracked and forced apart. |
Re-pointing works are carried out using angle grinders fitted with dust hoods, depth guages, diamond cutting discs and dust extraction units for the raking out process. Mortar is then gun injected into the joint, thus filling the joint from the back to the front, and then ironed off in the traditional manner. A variety of joint profiles are available but the most common joint is the half round on bucket handle type. |
